Community Board Member: Request for Nominations

Are you a member of the Manning, Como, Salter Point or Waterford local community that would like to make a valuable contribution to the Manning Primary School Board?

The Manning Primary School Board has the option of appointing a community representative, with the position reviewed annually.  Having enjoyed Kathryn Perin’s contribution to the board as the community representative for a number of years, we are now welcoming nominations outside of the parent/caregiver community with a view to having the representative commence their position at the start of the 2022 school year.  This is a voluntary position and remuneration is not offered, in line with all Board member roles.

The purpose of the School Board is to provide opportunities for the school’s staff, parents, and community to work together to formulate the school’s educational objectives and priorities through the school planning process. The Board is governed by its Terms of Reference and functions according to its Roles and Responsibilities.

Ideally, we are looking for a community representative who:

-          Resides in the Manning catchment area (Manning, Como, Salter Point or Waterford).

-          Has a past connection to the school (e.g. previous student, teacher or previously had dependents attending etc.)

-          Has a strong interest in promoting Manning Primary School within the local community

-          Contributes to the local Manning community (e.g. involvement in community or sporting group in an organisational capacity)

-          Ability to provide input and governance in line with the school’s mission of being a school of distinction inspiring confident and creative learners

What you can expect:

-          An invitation to several school events / occasions to enable you to engage with the school community

-          Participation with an active and engaged Board who meet approximately 8 times a year (typically on a Wednesday 5:30pm at Manning Primary School)

Kathryn Perin, our recent community representative, kindly provided the following reflection on her experience.

I loved every moment of my time on the Manning Primary School Board, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the school grow and change over the years.

As a community representative and local resident, I was able to bring a different perspective to the Board and offer an independent insight to best practice.

My two boys attended the school years ago.  While they are now adults, it’s been wonderful that through my past association as a parent, I have been able to help shape the future of the school for today’s children.

If you have a passion for helping people, can think strategically and collaborate with a strong team, I can recommend this volunteer role.

The gift is in the giving and the irony is that while I gave myself to this role for many years, it was the role that really gave the rewards to me.

If you would like to be considered for this role, please email a brief (maximum of 2 pages) expression of interest to the Chair, Bevan Cole, outlining how you meet the requirements outlined above, and what you would bring to the Board.

Your expression of interest should be emailed to  [email protected].

In accordance with its Terms of Reference, the Board will consider nominations at a meeting in December 2021. The Chair will advise nominees of the outcome following this meeting.

If you would like further information, please contact the school by phone (9266 6250) or email ([email protected]).
